US Grade 5 - 8
This class is designed to help learners explore different significant points of history through the eyes of different historical fiction characters using the You Choose: History series. Your young historian will be given the opportunity to make decisions that impact their characters lives. As a historian, your learner will be able to compare the different roles throughout history and see the part each type of person played in history. Each week will cover a different period in history with no two classes being the same! Learners will work together to make decisions for historical characters, discussing the pros and cons of each choice. After our lesson each week, learners will gain access to a Padlet full of articles and videos from around the web for further exploration of the week’s topic. Your historian will be encouraged to use the Padlet to learn more and share in the classroom what they've learned.
Learning Goals
Students will explore history through their own choices as they take on the role of a historical fiction character in different events throughout World History.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Virginia Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I am a licensed teacher in the state of Virginia and have worked in the public school system for about 10 years. I have known my whole life that I was meant to be a teacher. (Ever since I taught my baby sister her alphabet when I was 5, anyway.)
I offer a large variety courses in reading comprehension, literature-based creative writing, science, history, math and life skills. I strive to open my students' eyes to the larger world through literature and exploration.
I firmly believe that education should be individualized for students. If I find that your child is struggling to access the curriculum, I quickly look to see what method would allow them to succeed and put it into place. If your child has special needs, please reach out to me and I will work with you to make sure your student's needs are met to the best of my ability. All teacher-created materials are in a dyslexia-friendly font.
Additionally, if you are interested in a course, but do not see a time that works for you, I encourage you to reach out. If at all possible, I will gladly schedule a section that works for you and your child.
