🌿 Welcome to Ms. Jodi's Classroom! 🌿 Step into a warm and engaging learning space where young readers build confidence through storytelling, drawing, and writing! This private/semi-private tutoring class is designed for students who have mastered letter recognition and are ready for the next step in their reading journey. Through wonderful folktales and multicultural stories, students will explore short vowel word families and digraphs (sh, ch, th, etc.) in a meaningful and magical way. Each new word part is introduced through storytelling, helping students form mental pictures of sounds before bringing them to life through drawing and writing. Students will create their own visuals for word families, which can be kept in a sketchbook or main lesson book for future reference. As part of each lesson, they will also practice handwriting, strengthen sight word recognition, and develop writing fluency, all while enjoying a creative and engaging learning process. Perfect for 1st and 2nd grade beginning readers, this class follows a gentle, Waldorf-inspired approach that nurtures both literacy and creativity. Class Structure: 📖 Story – Listen and imagine 🎨 Drawing – Create a visual connection ✍️ Writing – Practice words and sentences 📚 Reading Practice – Strengthen fluency with leveled readers 🔹 Materials Needed: A 9x12 sketchpad or main lesson book, along with Stockmar block and stick crayons. Let’s make reading a joyful and enriching experience together! ✨📖🎨
Learning Goals
Develop Phonetic Awareness & Word Recognition – Strengthen understanding of short vowel word families and digraphs through storytelling, guided practice, and hands-on activities.
Enhance Writing & Handwriting Skills – Improve letter formation, sentence structure, and fluency by engaging in writing exercises that connect to stories and illustrations.
