Class Experience

This class can be used to "wake up" your brain to prevent the summer slide. Make this class part of your summer morning routine. This is an ongoing class, but you can join at anytime! We will spin the Mystery Wheel at the beginning of each class to determine the writing prompt for each lesson. Writing prompts will not repeat for months! You will then have the opportunity to share your writing and reflect upon the writing process. Reflections may include: what you liked about the prompt, what you found challenging while writing about the topic, and/or what connections you made to the prompt. These meetings will provide a safe place to practice staying on topic, organizing ideas quickly, public speaking skills, reflection skills, as well as active listening skills. You should already have a firm grasp of how to write creatively prior to the class. No direct writing instruction will be provided. Grammar, spelling, and writing mechanics will not be emphasized. This class provides a safe format to "get thoughts down" during the first draft phase. The class will be learner driven, but the format will be as follows:
~Greeting
~Mystery Wheel Spin
~Independent Writing
~Sharing of Writing/Reflection (if so desired)
~Closing

Writing Prompt Examples:
~Do you think there are benefits to being involved in extracurricular activities? Why or Why not?
~Imagine you fell asleep and woke up in a forest.
~Picture Prompts
~What do you think this quote means?
~Would you rather...?

NOTE: Sections with no enrollments 15 minutes prior to the start of class will be cancelled.
