Coding With Boomer: Pre-Readers

Students in the class will work side by side with the teacher to learn how to code characters in code.org. Each class will focus on a coding concept which included sequences, loops and events. 
Class 1- We will do a whole group activity, working to figure out how the dog Boomer gets to the house, teaching about sequences using a google slideshow while the kids participate by annotating on the screen.  Then the students will use that skill to code on code.org with guidance from the teacher.
Class 2 - We will do a whole group activity to learn about looping.  We will start by having Boomer repeat something several times to demonstrate a loop and then the students will create a short dance together. After our dance, the students will use loops to code on code.org with guidance from the teacher.
Class 3 - We will do a whole group activity to learn about events using actions that the teacher calls out. Boomer will take the first turn and then the group will complete the rest.  Then we will use events to code on code.org with guidance from the teacher. At the end of class, I will explain and discuss directions for the final activity.
Class 4- Each student will have the opportunity to share their final product and I will talk about other activities that will take coding skills further. We will also take the opportunity to talk about how we feel about certain aspects of coding and how we can use the feelings to be successful.
