Understanding and Paying Bills Self-Paced Class

Hello, and thank you for your interest in Understanding and Paying Bills Self-Paced Class!  My name is Kristi Robertson, and learners call me Kristi. This is an asynchronous on-demand class with no video meetings. There are many topics that are not taught in school that are important skills for learners to obtain as they grow into adulthood. This class teaches learners the important life skill of reading and understanding bills to introduce and prepare learners for adult responsibilities later on.  The bills we will cover are:

1. Car Repair Bill
2. Home Mortgage Bill
3. Utility Bill
4. Vet Bill
5. Wireless Services Bill

Learners will use their own set of interactive digital Pear Deck slides containing a sample bill to discuss, practice, and answer questions. Some example questions are:

Car Repair Bill: 
1. What 4 things did this person get billed for?
2. How many hours did it take to fix the brake issue?
3. How much is the total due?

Home Mortgage Bill:
1. How much money is left on this loan?
2. When is the new payment due for this billing cycle?
3. When was this bill printed?

Utility Bill:
1. What type of utilities are included on this bill?
2. What percent of the bill is gas? 
3. What happens if you miss the due date?

Vet Bill:
1. What kind of pet does this owner have?
2. How much did bloodwork cost?
3. What do you think a "rebate" is?

Wireless Services Bill:
1. If you have a question about your bill, what number can you call?
2. How much was the last bill for?
3. What time period does this bill cover?

After learners have completed the Pear Deck slides, we will have two discussion topics per lesson that learners will read and respond to in the online classroom discussion thread.
