In this one-time class, we will focus on simplifying fractions. We will learn what it means to "simplify" or "reduce" a fraction and why it's important. Students will be introduce to the idea that simplified fractions are equivalent. We will use bar models to explore equivalencies among simplified fractions. We will learn the steps to take in order to simplify a fraction. Students will practice finding the factors of the numerator and denominator and dividing by the great common factor. This class will benefit those who need extra practice with this concept.

Welcome! My name is Teacher Shannon and I am so excited to meet you! I have been working with students from all ages for over ten years and I am ready for you to join the party! Our classes together will focus on a range of things from fun with fractions to diving into life underwater. Don’t worry - our time together will be boring and uninteresting. Not! Your class will be full of excitement and high energy as we approach learning in an exciting way. I have a passion for connecting with students and helping them feel as if their teacher really “gets” them. My experiences have helped prepare me to meet the needs of students of every type. Previously, I was a fifth grade classroom teacher and I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching, a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Liberal studies, and a minor in elementary education. Outside of teaching, I am a PADI certified professional scuba diver and I hope to bring my love for all things aquatic into our classroom. I look forward to seeing you soon!
