Class Experience

This is a lecture-style class combined with Toonly visual aids. (Toonly is a mix between PowerPoint and a cartoon) I will give personal examples as well as examples from previous live classes from other anonymous students. This is a "flex" style class which stands for "flexible". This means there are no live Zoom meetings or class times. Each week, a new video lesson will be available for learners to complete on a day and time that is convenient for them.

TIME MANAGEMENT: Do you have goals and dreams that just never seem to come true? Learn how to complete goals by forming good habits. Students will brainstorm and share ideas. We will discuss handwriting in planners versus using your smartphone to plan. We will learn how to break a seemingly impossible task down into smaller more attainable goals. We will share and discuss what has and has not worked well for us. I will model my planning methods. Imagine saving time and energy by the order in which you do things! We will target time wasters. Ponder the source of procrastination together. Do we procrastinate because we are bored or overwhelmed? Learn ways to find solutions instead of merely listing problems.

STUDY HABITS & PLANNING: Learn several proven techniques for studying effienently. As a person with ADHD I struggled through grade school. Through trial and error, I learned how to study and graduated high school summa cum laude. I was a top athlete, president of my class, in foreign language clubs, student council and more. Later, I would go on to also graduate from college with summa cum laude honors. At university, I was on the Dean's List, Marketing club, worked two jobs, volunteered, was president of a local non-profit, and had time to exercise and spend quality time with family and friends. I share my journey and give tips on how to eliminate distractions and form good study habits. We compare note-taking by hand versus electronics. We talk about how to stay organized and juggle multiple projects.

STRESS MANAGEMENT: We all deal with stress. One of my most life-changing classes at University was “Stress Management”. We spent a semester learning tips and techniques for handling stress. We don’t aim to eliminate stress because that is impossible. Instead, we learn coping skills and aim for stress reduction. For example, I will share techniques for visualization, meditation (many different types!), mind over matter, saying “no”, prioritizing, exercising, positive thinking and problem-solving.

STRESS MANAGEMENT CONTINUED - Since there are so many techniques, I will continue sharing them for this final week of class.

Much of my expertise is explained in the class description. I began using a planner in middle school only when it was forced upon us in public school. However, what I learned was how much I enjoyed it because it helped keep me organized, remember things and accomplish more in life. I continued using a planner all though school. Later, in college I completed a course in time management and stress management. Some of the themes learned in both courses overlap to reduce stress, problem solve and form positive habits.
