Class Experience

Note:

I have recently accepted a full-time position and now teach very few classes on Outschool. At this time, I am unable to accommodate class requests. Thank you!

In this class, students will learn more about their ADHD through a positive lens. We will answer questions such as:
-What is ADHD / ADD?
-What are the common symptoms of ADHD for boys and girls?
-How does an ADHD brain differ from a neurotypical brain?
-How many people have ADHD and when are they usually diagnosed?
-How can we use the traits of ADHD to our advantage?
-What does the latest research tell us about ADHD?

As I take the class on a journey into their unique brains, we will brainstorm ways to "hack" the more positive attributes of ADHD and how to mitigate the more difficult areas.

To teach this class, I will use a self-made PowerPoint presentation, but keep the instruction lively with photos, a few short video clips, built in areas for students to make predictions, discussion questions, and some low-stress pop quiz questions. I have an energetic and interactive teaching style, and I accommodate all learners in the classroom. I have taught over 1,000 students with ADHD on Outschool in my very popular "ADHD Advantages" classes.

Master's Degree in Education from Morningside College
I have been teaching for more than 17 years, and I have a Master's degree in education. Coursework in understanding and teaching exceptional students was required to complete this degree.

I have successfully educated many students with ADHD in my face-to-face classes. In my years teaching 4th-8th grade, I became known for my approach and success with students who struggled with their ADHD. Whether it was my high-energy teaching style, my desire to keep up on the latest research to better understand neurodiverse learners, or just the soft spot I have for these students, they have excelled in my class.

I have also given multiple presentations about ADHD to school staff, and have successfully taught over 1,000 students on Outschool in my popular "ADHD Superpowers" class. My next career goal is to become an ADHD coach.
