Intermediate Level
Students will learn to identify and utilize grammar conventions, figurative language, colorful vocabulary, and appropriate sentence and paragraph structure in compositions. Special attention will be paid to capitalization, punctuation, commas, noun subject agreement, and the usage of phrases and clauses in writing. The class will be comprised of three main parts. Initially students will use pen and paper and the zoom chat to explore grammar, figurative language, and vocabulary in isolation through 2-3 fun and engaging activities. The students will then work along side Author E to create a mentor text that utilizes the recently learned skills and strategies. Lastly, the student will work on their own compositions at home after that days class has been concluded. Students will submit their drafts to Author E daily through email and receive written feedback to implement into their compositions. After the last class, students' compositions will be graded with a rubric that assesses students use of previously stated learned skills. This class experience will be very fun and lighthearted, as it is Author E's goal to make learners feel comfortable to express themselves freely. There will be both written and verbal interactions between students and Author E via zoom and zoom chat.
