Follows Teacher-Created Curriculum
We will discuss and explore themes across the five chosen books including: place and social hierarchy, jealousy, identity, hope and disappointment, coming of age, trauma, naivety, friendship and deceit and more. Learners will be emailed a set of questions in advance of each class in order to organize and prepare their thoughts and ideas about the themes within the text, literary techniques, characters and plot development.

HartleyWe will discuss and explore the themes of place, social class and hierarchy, coming of age and trauma, loss of innocence, the danger of secrets.Week 5Lesson 5Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia OwensWe will discuss and explore the themes of isolation, social alienation and psychological distress, coming of age and trauma, hope and disappointment, resilienceWeek 6Lesson 6Character Contrast & ComparisonWe will discuss and explore learners' most loved and most loathed characters, contrasting and comparing the themes which bind or separate them.
Broaden scope of reading, experience different genres, improve ability to critique, compare, contrast and confidently explore themes within different genres in discussion with others. Learners can choose to read all or some of the listed texts. This class listing is being posted in advance so that learners have time to source books and read them in time for summer discussions.
High school teaching experience for 15 years has included substitute teaching English, as well as running book clubs and revision sessions for learners.
Homework Offered
Homework will be optional. Homework offered will be in essay format, a response to a question which I am more than happy to read and provide feedback on.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
