Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 7
Intermediate Level
In this personalized 1-on-1 reading comprehension and novel study class, learners will explore engaging, age-appropriate literature while developing essential critical thinking and reading skills. Each private session is tailored to the student’s reading level, interests, and pace, creating a safe and supportive environment where young readers build confidence and fluency.

Each class begins with a quick check-in on the assigned reading, followed by an in-depth literature discussion focused on:

Plot structure and story pacing

Character development and motivations

Setting and its influence on the story

Point of view and perspective

Figurative language and literary devices

Students will strengthen their vocabulary skills, make text-based inferences, and explore key themes and messages in the book. To check comprehension in a fun and low-pressure way, each session ends with a brief Kahoot quiz, shared through a link in the chat.

This class is highly interactive and encourages learners to express opinions, make predictions, and connect personally to the text. Whether your child is a reluctant reader or an avid book lover, this class offers the tools and encouragement to grow as a thoughtful, engaged, and confident reader.

Perfect for homeschoolers, enrichment, or extra help outside of school — this is more than just tutoring; it’s a space for students to discover the joy of reading.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Georgia Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
As a licensed teacher for over 30 years, I have had the opportunity to support and engage students with diverse learning needs. I strive to create a positive classroom environment that is both supportive and engaging, where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas and participating in discussions. My goal is to help each student develop a lifelong love for reading while achieving their academic goals.
My passion is literature. I believe stories make concepts more palpable to children. Stories teach students valuable lessons, empathy, and to see the world from different perspectives.
When I have time, I like to travel, experience different cultures, and learn the history of people and places. I am also an animal lover! I have two dogs, have worked with animal rescues, and fostered cats and dogs for years.
