Regardless of grade level, informational stories can be challenging to understand, especially if a student has no connection to, or prior knowledge of the subject. This comprehension strategy helps students break down a story into parts, which makes it easier to understand the main ideas. Students learn by the "I Do. We Do. You Do." instructional model. For example, the teacher first models the strategy, then helps students practice the technique, offering support as needed. The lesson ends...
No homework will be assigned. Students will practice a reading comprehension skill they can use throughout their school years; and learn vocabulary connected to the strategy.
An informational reading passage will be available for students to read and practice the Stop & Jot skill.
Parents will receive a Mastery-Based assessment of child's performance.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
