I'm so excited to offer this STEM Club! Each week I will give students a challenge and they will complete the challenge using the STEM process. I always scaffold during my lessons, so learners will have my support if they need it. During class students will have the chance to share their ideas and designs. I will check-in with all my students every few minutes as they work to complete the weekly challenge. At the end of class, students will share their designs with the class. I believe learning needs to be hands-on and fun; therefore, my classes are very engaging and promote higher order thinking skills. I enjoy fostering an environment full of creativity and imagination! I will use the following STEM challenges during the course: Week 1: Design an igloo Supplies: toothpicks and marshmallows Week 2: Hibernation Design * Aluminum foil, straws, cotton balls, popsicle sticks, & glue/tape Week 3: Design a rocket * Paper, paper towel rolls, coloring materials, aluminum foil, & glue/tape Week 4: Design a maze * paper plates, straws, popsicle sticks, marble, glue/tape, & coloring materials Week 5: Tallest Tower * plastic cups, notecards Week 6: Habitats *shoe box, construction paper, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, coloring materials, glue/tape I will send out any planning pages prior to class. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is Beckie and I live in Georgia. I have been teaching in a public school setting for 8 years. I've taught 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th grade. I love providing my students with hands-on and engaging activities. I believe in implementing STEM, critical thinking, and higher levels of learning in the classroom setting. My favorite part of teaching is when my learners share their excitement with others. My goal is for your child to not only learn new concepts, but to build a passion for something new. I was voted "Teacher of the Year" a few years ago; therefore, I strive to provide my students with a learning environment that gets them excited to learn new concepts and ideas.
In my free time I enjoy reading, cooking, and exploring new parks with my family. I look forward to teaching your child!
