Students will be given accolades and encouraged to share with their family and friends.Class Experience
Beginner Level
This is a legos club/STEM lab class. Students will be free building initially at the beginning of class for about 5-8 minutes. They will share their builds and talk about it to the class or to me (10 minutes). Then they will either watch a video or see some builds that some of the upper kids might do. They will be given a build to complete, and a certain time frame (10-15 minutes) and then we will share out, if they choose to. Next I will ask them, if they can give each other compliments or snaps, etc. I might ask them to extend, by looking up a robot or example online where they might see it in the real world. Then share their pictures. Finally, I will have them write about it for about 5 minutes in their Legos "engineering" journal. If they choose to, they can just draw a picture based on age, etc.
Learning Goals
The Objective is for the students to build objects in a STEM lab and free build in club setting to further their knowledge of robotics and engineering and to play in a structured environment.
Other Details
Learning Needs
This is a club setting, so the learners will be in a fairly relaxed environment. Students can take breaks and close their cameras/microphones as needed to take care of whatever they need to, and will be encouraged to share, but not required
Parental Guidance
Some of the videos that I may show will be from industry and technology based. They may see robots and AI information/images. Some of the kids may not understand AI; however, I will explain how it works and it's efficacy.
Pre-Requisites
Students will need to have a little knowledge of legos or have built with the legos before a little. They will be building through some imagination, so they might need to practice 'free building' before the club but it is not required.
Supply List
Students will need their own legos each week, and also a spiral notebook and pencil to write down their engineering findings for the day.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
We will use legos, so there will be lego images and also some videos on legos from youtube.com and other websites like firstinspires.org.
