What's included
Homework
1 hour per week. Learners can watch the video lesson and complete weekly projects related to the creation of their lemonade stand anytime during the week that works for them. All weekly tasks relate directly to the creation of the lemonade stand- no busy work! Learners and families can also modify these assignments as needed to meet their own needs and goals as they create their business. The amount of time needed to complete each task will vary depending on the learner's ideas but expect to spend about an hour per week working on tasks related to the creation of the final product- the lemonade stand!Class Experience
Are kids too young to earn money? No way! Entrepreneurship can be learned and practiced at any age! In fact, your tween and teen years are a wonderful time to develop entrepreneurial skills that can benefit you throughout your entire life. In this flex class, we'll explore entrepreneurship through the experience of creating and operating a lemonade stand. In partnership with the Lemonade Day program, we will learn the skills necessary to start and operate a small business. While the business model is a lemonade stand, learners are encouraged to put their own creative spin on the idea. Perhaps your lemonade stand also sells your art, jewelry, or cookies! It is up to you! Examples of topics we will discuss include: What are some ways to earn money as a teen? How do I balance working or starting a business with school and other responsibilities? How can I start my own business? Should I start a business on my own or with a friend? Do I have to pay taxes if I'm not 18? How can I get customers for my business? How can I stay safe while working in the community or online? Here is our schedule for each week of class: May 1: Goal Setting and Entrepreneurship May 8: Create your Business Plan May 15: Customer Service and Product Design May 22: Final Business Plan and Investors This class does not meet live. All lessons are posted by 10am EST Monday mornings.
Learning Goals
Learners will be able to identify and explain concepts and ideas related to entrepreneurship (example: customers, supply and demand, expenses, profit, etc.) and put these concepts into practice by creating a lemonade stand or similar business venture.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Learners and families have the option to access the FREE "My Lemonade Day" app offered by the non-profit organization My Lemonade Day. This is totally optional but certainly helpful. For more information check out lemonadeday.org
Supply List
Learners will be creating their own business, based on the idea of a lemonade stand. This idea could be modified (example: selling ice cream, artwork, etc.) but the overall objective is for learners to set up a business on their own. Items needed could vary depending on the learner's idea. Throughout the class we will discuss how to obtain needed items without buying them new (for example, borrowing a table from a friend or family member) but some items such as ingredients for their lemonade will need to be purchased. Learners will not need to bring these items to class.
