In this class, students will practice solving equations that involve 3-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping to crack the code and find out which animal stole the leprechaun's gold! It will be helpful for learners to have some background knowledge in 3-digit addition and subtraction as this is not an introductory lesson but one to be used for practicing the skill of 3-digit addition and subtraction. For this lesson students will need either a whiteboard and marker or paper and pencil. We will spend the first few moments of class creating a community by getting to know one another and understanding class expectations. Then we'll dive in and start cracking the code! As a class, we will go through equation by equation to solve. I will be providing support to learners as needed! Once we get to an answer, that answer will match up with one of the animal's who has been seen before checking out the leprechaun's gold. Finding an answer that matches with an animal will eliminate that animal from our line up! Once all of our equations are solved, we will have revealed who stole the leprechaun's gold! We'll close our lesson out by checking in with our learning target to ensure students have understood, and students will also do a self reflection on their effort throughout the lesson!
