Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this class, students will focus on learning fact families and understanding the relationship between addition and subtraction equations. I’ll begin each activity by demonstrating the process, allowing learners to see a step-by-step example before they try it themselves. Some activities will be completed independently, where students can explore fact families on their own through different exercises, and then they’ll have the chance to share their results with the group. Other activities will involve group discussions or games, providing opportunities for collaborative learning and reinforcing concepts through interaction. We will also briefly touch on some properties, such as the commutative and identity properties, to enhance their understanding of how numbers interact within equations. My teaching style combines demonstration and facilitation, ensuring students have guided support while also fostering independence and teamwork. Throughout, students will engage with me through interactive elements like games, discussions, and sharing sessions, making for an active and supportive learning environment.

Below is a list of different games that will be available, though we may not get to all of them. If there is a particular game that keeps students especially engaged, we’ll continue playing it rather than rushing through to cover all of them.

-Fact Family Houses
-Fact Family Triangles
-Fact Family Matching Game
-Roll and Build Fact Families
-Fact Family Art

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Central Missouri
I have taught my twins and children in public schools a variety of math skills. I have taught in multiple states and am aware of the state standards that schools require in different grades. My expertise and bachelor's degree in education qualifies me to teach math skills in language arts grades K-6th. My background with homeschooling my twins, who are now doing 7th grade work, and other homeschool students has allowed me to practice math skills on a daily basis. I have been my girls' only math teacher since 2nd grade, when we pulled them out of public school and started homeschooling.
