This beginning class on antonyms will be structured around an interactive PowerPoint. First, the students will learn that antonyms are opposites. Next, we will collaboratively review some common antonyms, such as hot/cold, in/out, and above/below. Once I am able to determine their comfort level, we will collaboratively go over the original pairs again, review additional simple pairs of antonyms like asleep/awake, or we will tackle more difficult antonym pairs, such as crooked/straight, deep/shallow, and give/receive. Finally, the students will answer some multiple choice questions to test their knowledge and have some fun.
Learning Goals
In this beginners class, the students will learn that antonyms are opposites. Then, we will review several pairs of antonyms.

Supply List
Please have the students come prepared. A few sheets of paper and a couple of pencils are recommended.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
My experience has been that students need to fully understand antonyms prior to learning synonyms. If they learn both at once, many students tend to confuse the two terms. Once they are proficient with antonyms, then it is appropriate to proceed to synonyms.
