Class Experience

In this one-time class, students will learn how to control their emotions by gaining a greater understanding of the brain and how it correlates with feelings and reactions.
We will discuss three different parts of the brain, their jobs, how they connect to our emotions, and different strategies that can be used when we are feeling upset.
Through modeling, pictures, games, a book ("A World of Pausabilities" by Frank J. Sileo), and practice opportunities, students will gain a greater understanding of what is going on in their own body and in turn, can be more in control of themselves, or be a BRAIN BOSS.
Provided in the materials for this class is an Emotion Chart, Calming Cards, and a Choice Sort Worksheet.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the amygdala, the prefrontal cortex, and the hippocampus and their jobs within the brain. They will understand what different emotions could look like and how our brain can send stress signals to our body when feeling overly emotional. Students will be able to identify different calming strategies that can be used to return to a regulated state.
