Silly Sentences: Let's Write Together!
In this one-time class (that can be taken over and over again!), we laugh, learn a tricky sound, and work on beginning writing skills, such as sentence structure and spelling strategies, as we create and write together-with a silly twist! ("Camp" option offered in June!)

Join me for lots and lots of LAUGHS! This fun and academic "one-time" class can be taken over and over again, since each class will be a little different. ****I will list this class multiples times throughout the Summer months (June-August), sometimes listed on back-to-back days, so you could even take this class as a "camp" on those days! Each class will be different, with different spelling strategies, different silly stories, and different sentences that we will write together. >>>I already have a "camp" option for this class, scheduled for June 5th-7th @ 1:40pm CST. Join one, two, or all three classes! In this one-time class, we will practice beginning writing skills in order to write a complete sentence (or more!) together. Here's the twist: the sentences we create will have a silly mix of subjects, verbs, and adjectives (making our sentence, well, silly)! At the beginning of each class, we will learn about nouns, verbs, and adjectives. We'll practice what these words mean through song and dance (for whoever wants to join me in singing and showing off their dance moves-totally optional)! We will learn and practice sentence structure (starts with a capital, ends with punctuation, spaces between words), discuss spelling strategies as they arise in our sentences, and work to form a complete sentence together. This class is very much student-led as we create our silly stories and sentence together. I teach one "tricky sound" during each class, and we use that tricky sound within words in our sentence that we sound out and write together. I teach several different tricky sounds and change them up often in this class, so you can learn several tricky sounds if you join this class over and over! Even if I teach the same tricky sound for two different times that you join, the stories and sentences will still be different each time you take the class. Because of this, the great thing about this one-time class is that, since each class will be a little different in content based on my lessons and based on the students in the class, this class can be taken over and over again, as many times as you want! (I do offer this class as an ongoing class during the Fall and Spring semesters.) Join me as we work on our beginning writing skills, create sentences together, and, just maybe, get a little silly! ***When writing, I will guide students through sounding out each word and spelling phonetically [writing the letter(s) for each sound heard in the word]. I will teach spelling patterns and strategies as I see fit, but not all words may be spelled correctly in this class as we write together. We are aiming for creating independent writers, so while I may teach the correct spelling of a word, I will first guide your student through sounding the word out on their own. That way, when your learner wants to write a word independently and does not know that word’s spelling, they can use phonetic spelling [identifying each sound in a word and applying the correct letter(s) that match that sound] to write it. As long as it includes every sound, and we can read it, they will have successfully written independently. We are encouraging confident and independent writers! (An example of this would be if your learner wrote "casl" for "castle" or "bune" for "bunny.") Many times, I will lead students through sounding out the word phonetically and also teach them the correct spelling of the word we are writing (so they can learn a new word!). *Students in this class should know all letters and sounds and be able to write each letter independently. (However, I am always happy to help briefly review handwriting of a letter while we write if a student asks!) Prior knowledge of/exposure to sight words is recommended, but not required, for this class (I will briefly reteach as we encounter each one).
Learning Goals
Students will understand basic sentence structure and practice using letter sounds to sound out and write words in a sentence.

Parental Guidance
Please make sure that your child knows how to mute/unmute during our class, or try to remain close by in case they need help with this. I don't like to mute students since my classes are very interactive! However, sometimes background noise or computer/internet issues can cause interruptions in students hearing me speak. I will mute only when needed to make sure that all students can benefit from the learning in the class and each have a chance to speak and be heard. Thank you for your support in this!
Supply List
For the full experience, students should have something readily available to write with (ex: paper and pencil/pen/crayon, whiteboard and dry-erase marker, magic doodle board, etc.) to write along with me as we write our sentences. I will include a couple of print-out options for your learner to use in this sentence-writing class if you choose to use them. I strongly recommend having some sort of writing tools for this class, since it is a writing class and we will be writing together throughout the class. However, learning will be happening regardless of materials available to you, and I always welcome all learners into my classroom!
