Join me for an enchanting tale of a different animal each week, from the land of Serendipity. Students will strengthen auditory skills by practicing listening, discuss the moral in each story, & gain understanding of our differences.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
"Teaching Respect And Understanding Through Value Based Stories (Ages 5-8)" is an ongoing class, that will create an enjoyable reading experience, and ignite your child's imagination, listening to engaging stories through an animals perspective.
We will gather together and relax with a favorite blanket and/or pillow, and read the wonderful "Serendipity" books by Stephen Cosgrove, to better listening and understanding skills, each time we meet, as well as discuss honesty, kindness, our differences, good manners, selfishness, and many other important values.
We'll discuss the elements of the story, words not understood, along with the lessons learned in the story.
Reading aloud is such an important foundation in learning to listen, read, write and even speak. Becoming good listeners is a vital part of becoming a good learner and have a love for continued learning throughout life.

I hope you join me and together we'll learn a new concept weekly through a fun, engaging story.

I believe: WE ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO LISTEN TO AND LEARN FROM A GREAT STORY! If students can acquire a love for learning and reading in the style that works best for them, they will do better in all areas of learning.

This series of books are by Stephen Cosgrove. (A favorite author of mine from the Northwest-my growing up place!) His books can still be bought on line at his web site and the lessons they teach are priceless.

How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)?

Stephen Cosgrove is from Washington, my home state, and I read his stories to my children when they were small!
Our stories start over when we finish #29.
Learning Goals
We will work on our listening skills, use our imaginations, relate the characters, themes, and values/morals of the stories to our own lives, and be kind, positive and respectful to all students in class.

Supply List
This class does not need any purchased materials nor will any be sent. If your child listens better while being engaged in an activity they may want to bring paper and coloring materials and they could draw a picture about the story we are reading. This practice also aides in retaining what they hear!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a retired Preschool teacher of 25+ years and a teacher in all grades of elementary school, middle school and Hi school, I've read thousands of books to students over the years! I love reading with all ages. We all learn differently. Some read, some must listen to better comprehend what they hear. If students can acquire a love for learning and reading in the style that works best for them, they will do better in all areas of learning.
