US Grade 3
In this class students will learn all about place value, comparing numbers, and rounding. We will follow the Virginia Standards of Learning. The SOL's are below. 3.1 The student will a) read, write, and identify the place and value of each digit in a six-digit whole number, with and without models; b) round whole numbers, 9,999 or less, to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand; c) compare and order whole numbers, each 9,999 or less. Day 1 - Place Value and vocabulary. Day 2- To read and write numbers in all forms (standard, expanded and word) Day 3- Compare numbers to 999 Day 4- Order numbers to 999 Day 5- Rounding numbers Day 6- Review and assessment *Note for each day we have an in person class there will be a day in between for students to practice the material on their own. Class Structure: Students will have a warm up question to look at while everyone is logging in this will be the 1st couple minutes of class. Then I will teach the lesson. Students will have the opportunity to work together during the lesson and then have time to try some problems on their own. At the end of the lesson we will end with a game. I incorporate games, hands on activities, as well as worksheets in my lessons. Students learn in a variety of ways and I try to have different options available for the students. I do give homework so that students can practice the content on their own or with their family the day after I teach the concept. Repetition is key and so students should be practicing outside of class. There are fun ways to apply the concept in our life and through games so it's not always through worksheets and is not graded. Students will get to interact with me and classmates during the lesson in open discussions, games, and math problems.
