Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Welcome! This class is great for K-2 students who are struggling to write either because they have difficulty with imaginative ideas, (the why of writing) or experience anxiety with writing. This encouraging class is fun to develop creative writing with structured guidance and patience. The overall target is for your learner to develop writing confidence and to write for an extended period of time.

~~~~~
Students are taught writing concepts through visual examples and discussions. Learners are guided to dictate their story ideas and are encouraged to write in their notebook (I type verbatim what they say and share screen or put in the chat box). This class sticks to the syllabus, as posted. Additional topics are added at the end of each 10 week period.
What your child should be able to do:
1. Write on the line.
2. Form uppercase and lowercase letters.
3. Click on the chat box to receive private teacher writing support during the class.
What parents need to be able to do:
1. Provide support by entering on time.
2. Supply your learner with the same notebook and a pencil before class.
3. Avoid side conversations during the class session, if possible.
4. Remove the blur background on your Zoom so your child can show their work. In this way they can receive specific teacher feedback and corrections.
~~~~~

Please ensure your learner has a lined notebook for this class and bring this same notebook for each class. Please feel free to message me with any questions. Thank you!

Parental Guidance
Resources will be screen shared with students; they do not need to log in to access any materials. Please understand, this course does not teach writing mechanics, such as how to write on the line, how to hold a pencil, or letter formation. Please do an Outschool search with that specific criterion if you need a 1:1 tutor that focuses on occupational therapy (how to teach a child to physically write).
Supply List
Lined paper, please. Students need the same lined notebook at every session.

I grew up and went to school in the New York City area but now live in a small farming community in rural Midwest, USA. I enjoy working with and meeting people from both urban and rural settings and readily adjust to meet their learning needs in a culturally responsive way. I also volunteer at a prison and remain adaptable to ensure a supportive and safe learning environment.

I have degrees in the area of Corporate Communication, Education, and Second Language Acquisition. My teaching background is varied as a former 3rd Grade Classroom Teacher at a French immersion school, Orton-Gillingham trained structured reading teacher and as an Adjunct College Instructor.

I believe instructional data is crucial to improve learning outcomes. I constantly assess student comprehension during sessions in a relaxed and encouraging learning environment.

I love traveling and learning more about different cultures. This helps me to support all learners in my classroom. So far, I have visited Estonia, Russia, Kinshasa (Congo), London, Togo, South Korea, Latvia and a few other places. I also studied abroad in France. With each travel experience my respect for people and their culture simply deepens. I look forward to meeting you too!
