This class is good for learners that need remedial support and practice with reading fluency. Learners will practice reading aloud during each class to meet their reading goal of 20-25 minutes reading per night. During each class students will receive feedback and will be supported to improve in one of the areas of fluency: pace, accuracy, or expression, to improve reading outcomes. Fluency is essential to prepare learners to attain further academic success with reading comprehension. Fluency is typically demonstrated through mastery of 3 components. Pace - how fast you read depending on the context of the text. Accuracy - the ability to read the word correctly. Expression - dependent upon the text void of monotone output. In this class your learner will be guided to improve in one of these areas. This class is student driven where your child mostly reads to me, and is only periodically stopped to address few errors, if any. Corrections will be addressed through a brief discussion, practice/review by segmenting and blending phonics game. If your learner struggles with phonics to apply decoding skills for most of the session I will encourage you to consider the 1:1 Phonics course where I support through structured literacy and provide the resources to improve reading outcomes using a decodable text. Please send a message with questions.
Learning Goals
Students will improve various reading fluency outcomes through ongoing practice.

I grew up and went to school in the New York City area but now live in a small farming community in rural Midwest, USA. I enjoy working with and meeting people from both urban and rural settings and readily adjust to meet their learning needs in a culturally responsive way. I also volunteer at a prison and remain adaptable to ensure a supportive and safe learning environment.
I have degrees in the area of Corporate Communication, Education, and Second Language Acquisition. My teaching background is varied as a former 3rd Grade Classroom Teacher at a French immersion school, Orton-Gillingham trained structured reading teacher and as an Adjunct College Instructor.
I believe instructional data is crucial to improve learning outcomes. I constantly assess student comprehension during sessions in a relaxed and encouraging learning environment.
I love traveling and learning more about different cultures. This helps me to support all learners in my classroom. So far, I have visited Estonia, Russia, Kinshasa (Congo), London, Togo, South Korea, Latvia and a few other places. I also studied abroad in France. With each travel experience my respect for people and their culture simply deepens. I look forward to meeting you too!
