US Grade 4 - 7
Intermediate Level
"I like this class because it makes me happy to find the parts of speech. This class has made language arts classes easier." - Isaac age 10 In this class we will enjoy short passages of literature as we work to annotate the 8 parts of speech. We will discover the universal truth that there are no absolutes in grammar. In a gentle, Charlotte Mason manner, we will use sentences from classic books to find the parts of speech. I will spend some time in each video discussing the book and the context of the passage to the book as a whole. Each unit begins with a review of two parts of speech. With a mixture of videos, posts and a list of helpful questions we will dig deep into each passage to find the highlighted part of speech. For those students who wish to "level up" there is optional in class extensions where they can practice annotating all the parts of speech. The last lesson of each unit is a "going solo" lesson with required homework. The "Helpful Handouts" printout will be uploaded in the first lesson. There will be a literature passage to print out in each lesson. And...as an added bonus, I will post some "extras". Questions to encourage discussion about books students are reading and have read. I really hope to share a love of literature with each and every student! The books for Semester 1 include: The Toothpaste Millionaire Ane of Green Gables Jo's Boys Matilda Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Coraline The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Frankenstein Dracula War Horse A Horse and His Boy Black Beauty A Christmas Carol The Worse Christmas Pageant Ever
