This course will teach the basics of Scratch Jr. and Block Based Coding. This course will have a rotation of 12 different projects. The goal is to give each student the tools to create, problem solve, and expand their projects outside of class. I give each student the skills to expand on each project according to their imagination, creativity, and problem solving ability.
My class is structured in a show, try, and then do format. I show your child a skill or concept using slides or direct modeling. They try to repeat the skill through following my action. Then they do for themselves in expanding the project. I provide a scaffolding style of assistance that ends with independent creation.
I teach with patience, nurturing, and flexibility. I believe in gentle correction and constant contact. I will ask to see student work throughout the lesson to determine progress. I strive for all learners to observe each other and be inspired by their ideas.
We recommend use 2 devices for class. Use one device to interact with the teacher and another to run ScratchJr.
