Intermediate Level
This engaging and hands-on course is designed for primary aged learners to explore the wonders of science through thematic units that seamlessly integrate math, English language arts, and the arts. Each unit is project-based, encouraging students to apply their knowledge in creative and practical ways and can be adapted to each child's skill level. The course aims to foster a love for learning, critical thinking, and collaboration among students. This is an ongoing class and students can join at any time. Course Objectives: Understand key scientific concepts through thematic units. Apply math skills to measure, record, and analyze scientific data. Enhance reading, writing, and communication skills through science-related activities. Express scientific understanding through various art forms. Develop problem-solving and teamwork skills through project-based learning. Units of study for the weeks of Week 1 Weather - Types of weather and weather conditions Week 2 Weather - Measuring and recording weather data Week 3 Earth and Water - Describing the earth’s surface Week 4 Earth and Water - Changes to the earth’s surface (erosion, weathering) Week 5 The Solar System - The sun, earth, and moon Week 6 The Solar System - Planets and space travel Week 7 Material Properties - Observing and classifying materials Week 8 Material Properties - States of matter (solid, liquid, gas) Week 9 Forces and Motion - Understanding forces and motion Week 10 Forces and Motion - Simple machines (inclined planes, levers) Week 11 Magnetism - Attracting and repelling forces Week 12 Natural Resources - Types of natural resources 2/16 Natural Resources - Conservation and recycling
Learning Goals
Students will learn science units of study in a fun and engaging way. They will apply their skills from other disciplines as well.
