*Class Overview* My name is Sage, and I have 6 years of experience tutoring students in math, covering topics from Algebra 1 to Multivariable Calculus. I graduated from Harvard College with a BA in Applied Mathematics and am passionate about helping students excel on the SAT. In my 1-on-1 tutoring sessions, I offer customized learning experiences that are uniquely tailored to each student’s strengths and areas for improvement. These sessions are designed to be flexible, allowing students to schedule them at their convenience, whether it’s for regular weekly lessons or last-minute review before the test date. *What topics are taught?* The focus of these tutoring sessions is on mastering the math section of the SAT. I will cover a wide range of SAT Math topics to ensure students are well-prepared for any question that may appear on the exam, including: - Algebra and Functions (linear equations, systems of equations, inequalities) - Geometry and Trigonometry (angles, triangles, circles, and the unit circle) - Data Analysis and Problem Solving (ratios, proportions, percentages, interpreting graphs and tables) - Advanced Algebra and Pre-Calculus (quadratic equations, exponential functions, complex numbers) *Class Structure* These 1-on-1 sessions are highly flexible and fully customized to the student’s needs. Here’s how the class will generally be structured: - Assessment: In the first session, I’ll conduct an informal assessment to gauge the student’s current understanding of SAT Math topics and identify areas for improvement. - Focused Learning: After the initial assessment, each session will target specific areas that the student needs to work on. For example, if a student struggles with quadratic equations, we’ll focus on that before moving to other topics. - Practice Problems: A large portion of each session will be dedicated to solving practice problems, especially SAT-style questions. This hands-on approach helps students learn how to apply their knowledge effectively. - Strategy Development: I’ll also dedicate time to teaching test-taking strategies, which can make a significant difference in performance. We’ll work on recognizing patterns, managing time effectively, and eliminating wrong answers. - Homework (Optional): I can assign practice problems for the student to work on between sessions. This will reinforce the material covered and allow us to review any mistakes in the following session. *Teaching Style and Method* My teaching style is patient, adaptive, and highly interactive. I understand that every student learns differently, so I adjust my approach based on how they respond during our sessions. Some key features of my style include: - Session Format: Sessions are done via personal Zoom meetings. Math will often be done through the use of whiteboards. I have an additional in-person whiteboard available for use if needed. - Interactive Learning: I encourage students to actively participate in solving problems rather than passively listening. Each session involves two-way interaction where students solve problems, explain their thought process, and receive real-time feedback. - Concept Reinforcement: I make sure students fully grasp each concept before moving on. This may involve reviewing previous topics if necessary, to build a strong foundation. - Positive and Encouraging Environment: My goal is to create a stress-free, supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process.
