Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this class, we will take a close look the real pirates and piracy, and, look at what led to the rise of piracy and cementing their legendary status. Each class will look at one topic related to pirates and piracy.  As a flexible schedule class, each week, students will review a prerecorded video and complete activities to see why piracy came about, separate fact from fiction, look at real  pirates, and examine the codes and rules that pirates lived by.  No purchases will be needed for this classes, and information needed will be provided through handouts .

Prerecorded Lessons will consist of some or all of the following:  slides and a lecture;
In class activities will include options where students can ask questions and express thoughts on each topic, as well as complete assigned activities.

*There will not be any live classes!

Topics covered:

Piracy in the Ancient World--- A look at the rise of piracy, starting from the beginning:  The ancient world!

The Golden Age of Piracy---  We will look at a time that might be called The Golden Age of Piracy, a time when most of the famous pirates sailed the high sea's. 

Real  Pirates---  We will look at real pirates who sailed the high sea's and understand why they became  pirates.

Pirate Codes and Rules:  We will look at and learn about the codes and rules pirates lived by! 

*This is a flexible schedule class. Each lesson will be delivered via a prerecorded video that will be uploaded into the classroom every week.  Each student will be required to comment on the posting of others, as directed in each activity (at least once a week) throughout the course in order to to develop a sense of community in the class. The instructor will be available to help and will provide individual feedback throughout the course.

Lesson 1:
Early Piracy- An Overview
 In this lesson, we take a step back for a moment and take a general overview about pirates and piracy before we jump into the beginnings of piracy in the Ancient World! 
Lesson 2:
Piracy in the Ancient World
 In this lesson, we talk about pirates in the Ancient World.  We know all about Pirates of the Caribbean, but, before that, there were Pirates of the Mediterranean! We even briefly discuss piracy in Asia. 
Lesson 3:
The Golden Age of Piracy
 In this lesson, we talk about piracy in the Golden Age. 
Lesson 4:
A Close Look: Blackbeard and Bartholomew Roberts
 In this lesson, we learn about Blackbeard and Bartholomew Roberts.
