Class Experience

*This is part 2 of a 3 part curriculum, if you're child is already reading CVC (cat, map, job) words, they can skip part 1 and begin with this class.*

This Ongoing class is for students who have mastered blending CVC words, words with 3 sounds (cat, jet, hop..etc) and are ready to start practicing words with digraphs and initial/ final consonant blends. What are Digraphs? A digraph is a two-letter combination that represents a single sound (phoneme). Digraphs are normally introduced to children after they have a firm grasp on the single sounds of consonants and short vowels.

If your child is able to read the follow words, this class may be too easy for them:

this, whip, shut, chop, catch, smash, smock, flag, frog, brush, block, desk, rest, jump, lump

The class will be broken down into three major areas; phonemic awareness, word blending, word segmenting (writing).

Join at any time during the curriculum, the curriculum repeats after 9 weeks, so any missed lessons will be repeated.

This class will meet 3x a week for 30 minutes and will introduce/learn a new digraph or blend each week, see schedule below:

For each lesson I will introduce a new digraph or blend.
As a group we will practice building words with the targeted digraph or blend using letter tiles (a handout will be provided for students to use).
Next, we will practice blending words with the targeted digraph or blend and then writing those words on our whiteboards.
Last, we will play an interactive game to review what we have learned for the day.

Hi there! I'm Ms. Danielle and I am so excited to be able to teach so many different learners here on Outschool!

I received my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education and Leadership back in 2009. I taught for 10 years in public schools; I taught students in grades PreK-2nd. For the last 4 years, I have been teaching small group phonics classes and tutoring learners K-3 in reading and writing. I love creating fun, meaningful, and engaging lessons for young learners and hope to instill a love of learning within my students.

Besides teaching, I enjoy being outdoors, bike riding, hiking, going to the beach, reading, and doing yoga. I have a 7 year old son, and a VERY fluffy Goldendoodle named Bruce Wayne. Of course, he was named after my son's favorite superhero; Batman!!

I hope to see you in one of my classes!
