Mastery Evaluation
1-2 hours per week. Reading to/with your student every day is one of the most beneficial things you can do with your child. I recommend reading 15-20 minutes/day with your child in order to support their reading development.Assessment
In order to provide the most effective instruction for your student, I will conduct a number of assessments during our first session(s) of tutoring. I will then develop a unique plan for your student that targets their specific needs in the reading process. Throughout the tutoring sessions, I will conduct assessments that help me determine if your student is progressing and what areas still need to be addressed. Data driven instruction is the only way to ensure that we are targeting your student's specific reading needs.Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
Private tutoring for dyslexic, struggling, or emerging readers These tutoring sessions will be designed specifically for your student. We will address the foundational reading skills that will create a strong and confident reader. I will use thorough assessments in order to determine the focus areas, so each student will have a unique plan that meets their individual needs. I have training in the science of reading and the Orton Gillingham/multisensory instruction. These are scientifically proven to be the most effective ways to teach reading for all students, but specifically struggling and dyslexic readers. My tutoring will be grounded in the science of reading and structured literacy. This ensures that all students receive the highest caliber of reading instruction. Each student will have a specific plan, but some of the things we may cover are (but not limited to): -alphabetic knowledge -phonological awareness -phonics rules -sight words -spelling -letter formation -syllable types -decoding in a decodable text -comprehension -vocabulary Our primary focus will be CCSS English Language Arts Standards » Reading: Foundational Skills grades K-2 (depending on student need) During the first session(s), I will conduct various assessments in order to determine areas of need. Once I have determined their needs, I will communicate to the guardian(s) what the plan will be. I will then develop lessons as the tutoring progresses. I will use progress monitoring in order to make sure we are still addressing your student's needs. I do not teach from a preset curriculum because I will design lessons catered specifically to your student's goals/needs. But, I will follow a structured scope and sequence of reading skills. I would be happy to schedule a call (no charge) in order to discuss the plan in greater detail. I will teach my lessons over video chat, and we will use virtual manipulatives and books. If you have manipulatives that you can use at your house, then we will use those as well. Your student will be asked to write on paper/whiteboard for parts of the lesson. My priority is to keep your student engaged while also providing effective instruction. Reading is fun, and we want to build essential skills while enjoying the wonderful world of reading! Throughout my time as a dyslexia tutor and Kindergarten and 1st grade public school teacher, I have seen first hand the impact of intentional, intensive, and structured reading instruction. My passion is to empower students with the skills they need to be strong and confident readers. I am excited to offer my expertise on the Outschool platform. Let me know if you have any questions!
