This course is designed as a continuation of my class: "ABC Reading Club - Foundations for Beginning Readers.". Students can take this class without taking my previous class if they already know some basic sight words, and some beginning phonics including the short vowel sounds. If you are familiar with the Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading levels, we will be reading books at levels E-G. Please let me know if you need help assessing your child's reading level and I can send you a quick guide. In each class, we will continue to learn sight words, vowel patterns, word families, digraphs, and blending sounds. As we learn these basics, we will also be reading simple books together so that we can apply these skills. We will do this through a variety of digital resources that I have created and found through my experience as a classroom teacher and online tutor. I use PowerPoint slides, songs, and digital books on RAZ Kids as part of my instruction. Each student will be added to my RAZ kids class so that they can practice reading on their own and with an adult at their level in between sessions. Here is what we will be learning each week: Lessons 1-2: 1. Fry's Sight Words 61-70 (Depending on Student level, we may cover more.) 2. Vowel Pattern - Two Vowel Talkers (Diphthongs) 3. Reading books to focus on Decoding and blending words Lessons 3-4: 1. Fry's Sight Words 71-80 2. Vowel Pattern - Continue Two Vowel Talkers 3. Vocabulary 4. Reading more books to focus on decoding and blending words Lessons 5-6: 1. Fry's Sight Words 81-90 2. Vowel Pattern - More Two Vowel Talkers 3. Vocabulary 4. Reading more books to focus on Sight Words and decoding Lessons 7-8: 1. Fry's Sight Words 91-100 2. Vowel Pattern - Two Vowel Whiners 3. Vocabulary 4. Reading decodable and Sight Word Books Lessons 9-10: 1. Fry's Sight Words 101-110 2. Vowel Pattern - More Two Vowel Whiners 3. Vocabulary 4. Reading decodable and Sight Word Books Lessons 11-12: 1. Fry's Sight Words 111-120 2. Vowel Pattern - More Two Vowel Whiners 3. Vocabulary 4. Reading decodable and Sight Word Books Books that we will be reading include: Animal Tongues, At the Library, Bees Feed Me, Bubbles, Buddy the Bear, the Busy Pond, The Mitten, Frog is Hungry, Stone Soup, My First Class Play, My New City, The Sky is Falling

In this class, students will learn or review the basic foundations of reading, including sight words, phonics, and comprehension strategies to improve their reading levels.

Supply List
I have subscriptions to these reading programs and will be providing access to Flocabulary and Reading A-Z for the students to use in class. Reading A-Z will be available for your child to practice between sessions. Once you sign up for the class, I will give you the login information for these programs. Access to Google Slides and Docs during the class will be helpful as well.

I have been teaching elementary and middle school for over 30 years and have been tutoring struggling readers for 5 years. This class is especially helpful for students who may have struggled with dyslexia or reading in general as I will be using evidence based practices for teaching reading. These are wonderful strategies for all readers, and research has shown that these strategies are successful in helping students with dyslexia.
