In this class, learners will explore puzzles by Darin Beigie and others. Unlike Puzzling Into Algebra: Workshop 1, which focuses on solving for an unknown variable, Workshop 2 has a focus on puzzles that involve looking for patterns, using the patterns to solve problems, and summarizing those patterns with algebraic expressions. Students will be expected to work in class, share their thinking, and ask questions. There is no outside homework required. This class is intended for students who are starting their study of variables, equations, and algebraic skills, or who have already started these topics but need a different way of thinking about them. Students should be comfortable with multiplication and division before taking this class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Algebra can be intimidating. Everything is going great and all of a sudden they put the alphabet in math?!?
One of the best things about being a math teacher is helping students realize all the skills that they already possess. Algebra is essentially the process of applying logical arguments to mathematical statements. The mental processes that are involved in this are useful across multiple areas of learning that require critical thinking. I always strive to be a teacher who teaches students to THINK. I love teaching algebra as a critical thinking skill because it enhances students' lives in so many ways.
