Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Intermediate Level
In this personalized 1:1 novel study, learners will actively engage with rich literature while developing key reading and thinking skills. Each session is tailored to the student’s pace, interests, and reading level — creating a safe, encouraging space to explore books in depth.

We begin each session by checking in on the assigned reading, then move into a guided discussion that covers key literary elements such as:

Plot structure and pacing
Character development and motivations
Setting and its impact on the story
Point of view and perspective
Figurative language and literary devices
Students will practice using context clues to determine word meanings, make text-based inferences, and reflect on the themes of the novel. To assess comprehension in a fun and low-pressure way, each session includes a brief Kahoot quiz, shared via link in the chat.

Optional materials such as vocabulary lists, guided questions, and writing prompts are available upon request to reinforce learning between sessions.

The class is highly interactive and conversational — students are encouraged to express opinions, make predictions, and connect the text to their own experiences.

Whether your learner is a reluctant reader or an avid bookworm, this class is designed to help them grow as a thoughtful, confident reader!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Georgia Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
As a licensed teacher for over 30 years, I have had the opportunity to support and engage students with diverse learning needs. I strive to create a positive classroom environment that is both supportive and engaging, where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas and participating in discussions. My goal is to help each student develop a lifelong love for reading while achieving their academic goals.
My passion is literature. I believe stories make concepts more palpable to children. Stories teach students valuable lessons, empathy, and to see the world from different perspectives.
When I have time, I like to travel, experience different cultures, and learn the history of people and places. I am also an animal lover! I have two dogs, have worked with animal rescues, and fostered cats and dogs for years.

"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world, and the love of books is the best of all." ~ Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
