This class is part of the Primus Science (TM) Complete Science Course Curriculum. All Primus Science classes include interactive, online live classes on Outschool with daily hands-on labs & projects, plus optional worksheets and quizzes. Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Now more than ever students want to learn about microbiology - the study of microscopic organisms. We will explore this world we can't see in this five-week class. Students will learn about bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microbes. We will also learn how the human body fights off infections. We will view videos, photos, and models plus have a class discussion about what we are learning.

This class is part of the Primus Science (TM) Complete Science Course Curriculum. All Primus Science classes include interactive, online live classes on Outschool with daily hands-on labs & projects, plus OPTIONAL worksheets and quizzes perfect for Homeschool. Other classes in the Primus Science Life Science Curriculum include Cell Biology and Microbiology. Weekly curriculum:
Week 1: Microbes/ We will conduct an experiment on how microbes spread
Week 2: Bacteria/ We will do a bacteria experiment
Week 3: Fungi - Yeasts and Molds / We will conduct a yeast experiment 
Week 4: Viruses/ We will make a model virus
Week 5: Human Immune Response / We will do a Immune System experiment

Supplies for each class (Note: You will only need the supplies for that week's class):
Day 1: Disposable plate, 3 tablespoons flour
Day 2: 1 bowl half-filled with water, black pepper, liquid dish soap
Day 3: Empty water or soda bottle, 1 cup of warm water, 1 package of dry yeast, 2 tablespoons sugar, a balloon that can fit over the opening of the bottle, a funnel
Day 4: Playdough, 8 Qtips, Antibody Printouts from the Class Page, Pen or Pencil
Day 5: Tape (clear, masking, or duct), 2 tablespoons of butter, 2 teaspoons of seeds - sesame, coriander, mustard, or poppy, large bowl with HOT water, towel (for wiping hands/messes), plate

If your child has special needs, please let me know prior to class so we can make any necessary adjustments.

Parental Guidance
We may be using scissors for our projects. Adult supervision is suggested if your child needs assistance with using scissors. All projects are kid safe. Please review the class projects and decide if your child will need assistance. Allergy alert: Playdough may contain wheat products Educational science videos are used during this class. Some of these videos may be from YouTube.

Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Minors: Biology, Chemistry, and Writing
Annette the Teacher has been teaching for a very long time. She has over three decades of experience teaching children of all ages. She has a B.A. in Sociology with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She has homeschooled her own children from Pre-School through (their current) High School. All of her classes are interactive. Annette encourages students to fully participate in class. All of her classes feature hands-on activities or books Annette writes for the class herself.

Annette is a published writer, publisher, and artist. She uses her extensive knowledge and experience to create unique classes for every student. She enjoys teaching science, history, art, and cooking classes. She brings history alive with her "Life in ..." history classes where students learn about key times in history by experiencing children and families' lives in that time period. "Paint like ..." art classes where students will learn about famous artists and create their own artwork based on the artists' works. "Smart Science" classes where we explore science and complete experiments and projects. Kid Cuisine classes are cooking classes for Young Chefs based on historic foods and science topics. Creative Kids classes bring creativity to kids with crafts and literature. Cool Kids Clubs are social circles based on thems like crafts, science, stories, and the alphabet. The Writing Room teaches creative writing for primary, secondary, and high school students. Students should be prepared to make, explore, and create during class. Annette knows hands-on, interactive experiences are the best way for children to learn.

Annette also has experience working with Special Needs children. She is Mom to a child on the autism spectrum and a child with serious medical needs. She also has worked with children with ADHD. If your child has special needs, please contact Annette so she can work with you and your child.

Annette the Teacher has received Continuing Education credits to teach OER's The Big History Project and World History Project, Foundations for Teaching and Learning About Native Americans from the Smithsonian, The Best Start in Life: Early Childhood Development for Sustainable Development, and Positive Behavior Support for Young Children. She is working on certifications for special needs students as well as her TEFL certification for children and adults.
