US Grade 3 - 6
This one-time science class is for anyone curious about how, where, and why mushrooms grow. We will explore how mushrooms are part of the Kingdom Fungi and are not plants, how they grow extensive mycelium underground before we see them above ground, and how they germinate from spores. We will also talk about some mushroom folklore including mushroom fairy rings and the scarlet elf cap mushroom. No prior knowledge is needed! If time allows, we will have a fun trivia quiz at the end of class to see how much students can remember. An optional printable mini-book from the lesson is available upon enrollment.
Learning Goals
Students will learn:
*vocabulary like mycelium, hyphae, mycorrhizae, and saprotroph
*how mushrooms have a mutualistic or parasitic symbiosis with plants
*how mushroom fungus grows and reproduces
*what mushroom fungus consumes

Minnesota Teaching Certificate in English/Language Arts
Hello! Thank you for stopping by! I love students of all ages and I love teaching a variety of topics. Some of my favorite classes to teach are reading, nature, and science. I try to create a positive and encouraging atmosphere so learners feel comfortable in participating. I want students to have fun while learning!
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Minnesota State University, a Minnesota teaching license, and a 160 hour TEFL certification.
I have been teaching and guiding children since 2000 as a preschool/childcare provider, an ELA teacher in public school classrooms, and an ESL teacher in online classrooms.
I love teaching, but I also love being a student! I take as many classes as possible on whatever subject piques my interest. Teaching and learning are my life!
When my three daughters are home from college we love going for hikes, cooking together, and of course, snuggling our two funny cats, Pumpkin and Marigold.
I hope to see your learner in class!
