US Grade 2 - 3
In this class, students will build essential foundational skills in order to identify, evaluate, and assign adjectives to their favorite Pokémon characters. Students will leave this class with a solid understanding of one of the most essential parts-of-speech in the English language -- adjectives! As an extension to this lesson, we will also explore the differences between adjectives and other parts of speech that students can often get confused. We will use Pokémon characters as the basis of our study in order to brainstorm different ways in which we can describe these complex "creatures". By developing a strong understanding of adjectives, students will unknowingly strengthen their descriptive writing skills in language arts and other subject areas. We will begin class with an informal discussion where students can share information about their favorite Pokémon characters. This discussion will be followed by an interactive introduction to adjectives with an opportunity for students to practice matching descriptive words to pictures. After we complete the interactive matching activity, we will extend our learning by describing our own Pokémon using adjectives. We will end the lesson with an opportunity for students to voluntarily share their descriptions.
