Hi,
I am Ms. Katherine. My passion is education! I have worked in this field for more than 20 years. My specialty is retention and vision. Most of my work experience has been at the collegiate level with the Department of Education's TRIO Student Support Services program. I have been a Learning/Retention Specialist, Tutorial Specialist, Instructor, Assistant Director, and Director.
I have worked at a 4-year Public University, 4-year Private University and a Community College. Each type of institution has its specialties, and I can help you decide which is best. I have a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Mass Communications and minors in Marketing and Spanish. I also possess a Master of Science degree in Human Service Administration, both from Southeast Missouri State University.
I have managed Tutorial Services, Supplemental Education and conducted workshops on study skills, college major assessments, test-taking, and entrance exams for Learning Centers. I know what it takes to enter college and most important, how to stay in college (be retained) and graduate. These skills do not begin when you arrive at a college campus. These skills are better acquired long before you decide where you will attend. I want to help you be the most prepared college first-year students on a campus. First-generation college attendees are my specialty, but all students make me smile.
It excites me that each student has the potential to become their best at any point in their life. It is an awesome opportunity to have the freedom to choose who and what they'll become, and a true blessing. My teaching is a partnership. It is not just me telling them what to do or them telling me what they want. It is an open collaboration and discussion, and the student learns to take responsibility for themselves as they get closer to high school graduation. It is my goal to ensure they begin their new lives self-managing and making great decisions for their future.
I am currently a homeschool Mom to one child. I never thought I'd leave higher education, but here I am learning all over again. I’m discovering innovative ways to teach, and curriculum choice and discussion are by far one of my favorite things about homeschooling.
