Pig in the Pond: Singing & Story Time

This is an early childhood music and storytime class in a print-rich and prop-filled environment. We will get to know each other, and I'll give each student a chance to share with the class a toy or object on the theme, like a stuffed animal pig, cow, horse, or any other farm toy, or anything else they want to show and tell about. Then I'll show them their name card and practice the first letter and sound in their name or give them a chance to spell their name if they'd like. Next, we will sing a 'hello' song together. We'll put our pigs or other stuffed animals on our heads and sing " Pig On Her Head". I'll teach it to them first, and then we'll sing it together with the piano. Next, I'll ask them about how they're feeling using emotions cards, and then I'll introduce and read the story, The Pig In the Pond, by Martin Waddell.  I'll encourage the students to join me in the repetitive lines in the story. We might join in the sounds that the animals make as well. After the story, we'll get up on our feet and sing & move our bodies to the Piggy Jig song. To close the class, I'll teach the students a simple 'goodbye' song.
