Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
This weekly small-group singing class is designed to give young, beginning singers an introduction to voice training and the fun of learning and singing Disney songs. Students in this class should be at least 5 years old and at least beginning to read. They should also know how to mute and unmute their microphones and be able to take turns with other students in the class or have a parent off-camera at their side to assist.
Each week we will learn some simple vocal warm-ups & exercises and learn about proper breathing and posture for good singing. Students may learn a little bit about diction, vocal range, pitch, and how to express the emotion of a song throughout the course. Every week, students will learn a short song, or part of a song, in class together, and will be given opportunities to sing by themselves for the class each week. They may continue to work on the song each week at home by practicing with the sing-along videos posted in the classroom. The teacher will work with students as a group during lesson time, and allow each student to sing individually as they are learning the song. Students do not need to know how to read music as each phrase or section will be taught by rote and by singing with the video sing-alongs. Sing-along video links will be posted in the classroom ahead of the class meeting day, so that students may review the song ahead of the class meeting.
Each week we will do some vocal warm-ups and breathing. We will listen to & sing along with the song for that day on video, then we'll go over the song phrase by phrase or section by section allowing each student to take turns singing those sections individually. The students will have the option of practicing with the sing-along video on their own each week. Support, encouragement, and help will always be provided by the instructor as students are learning or singing. Instruction on expressive singing may be given at various times.

*Please Note: Anytime we are singing along with the video of a song, the students will mute their microphones, so the competing sounds won't cut out the music. Over Zoom, synchronized group singing is not possible because of the slight lag in the audio and video feed. We will sing together, but the students will only hear themselves and the music. They will take turns unmuting their microphone and singing individually for each section.
The most important goal of these lessons, aside from just having fun, is for each student to feel more confident in their own vocal abilities. My priority as a voice teacher is to instill confidence, maintain healthy voices, and help each child develop a love of music.
