***(IMPORTANT: Learners are asked to keep cameras on in this social, discussion-based class.)*** What is Philosophy for Teens? In this trial/introductory class, come explore what "Philosophy for Teens" is all about and what it means to be a teen philosopher in the world! Many people do not learn what philosophy as a discipline is until they end up taking a college course as an adult. That was my own first "introduction" to philosophy! I absolutely loved learning about the discipline but I found so many stereotypes still existed about what philosophy even was. Was it a particular type of belief? Was it only for ancient people? Was it only for certain types of people or maybe not even relevant until you were old? I found so many misunderstandings of the discipline that I loved so much that I desired to teach introductory college courses myself! I wanted to show people that it was all about tapping into our natural traits of curiosity, wonder, creativity, and critical thinking -- and those were skills we all have access to! Come explore how philosophical thinking is available to all of us, no matter our age and is not only a relevant discipline today, but will always hold invaluable tools that benefit humanity. We are born with philosophical abilities, the key is not to lose them, and keeping them strong into adulthood will serve us well! The main topics that will be explored are: curiosity, wonder, creativity, and critical thinking.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree from Old Dominion University
I am a former university instructor that specialized in making introductory courses fun, engaging, and relevant to everyday life. I have over 16 years of experience teaching at the college level, where I held the position of Master Lecturer before I left to focus on homeschooling my son full-time. In addition, I have over 3 formal years teaching philosophy courses to kids, ages 6-16. I volunteered at both a local public high school as well as a private school alongside performing my teaching duties at the university, as I was conducting informal research into the philosophical abilities of children.
