Morals, Ethics, and Values in Leadership: Developing Decision-Making Skills

Pop-Up Moral Philosophy: Aesop's Fables, Animals, and Metaphor

Class

Average rating:5.0Number of reviews:(6)
In this class, we will explore moral lessons from select fables from Aesop. We will also examine the powerful use of storytelling, animals, and metaphor in moral reflections.

Class experience

Students will be both introduced to and entertained by select fables. In addition, they will be able to engage in reflective discussion on the topic of morality. Learners will also benefit from being able to engage in philosophical discussion, listen to different perspectives, gain insights from other points of view, and defend their own viewpoints. With that said, the expectations are very low-key and relaxed but still do tend to naturally accomplish these elevated goals.
I taught philosophy classes at a university for over 16 years, including courses in ethics, and in all of my courses I used stories to elaborate on philosophical and moral theories, reflections, and insights. It made studying the material more entertaining, memorable, and relatable. There are so many rich philosophical insights in stories of all kinds!
This class will allow for the free exchange of ideas from the learners. Therefore, parents can decide if the open-discussion nature of the class is a good fit for their young learner(s). Of course, all discussions will always be moderated in a way to keep examples and views relevant, appropriate, and in line with Outschool's policies.
