US Grade 5 - 6
Welcome to 5th/6th Grade Math! In this twice weekly ongoing class, we will get together to learn, practice, and discuss various topics covered in grade 5, with some from grade 6. Because it is an ongoing class, your student can join and leave at any time throughout the school year. My classroom is very friendly, engaging, and inclusive. If your learner prefers to observe, I will respect that. If they love to actively participate, that's great too! I will engage the class and will try to get each student involved at their own comfort level. *I have a lot of experience with neurodivergent learners as a teacher and a mom, and am happy to work with you/them to ensure that they have an enjoyable class experience.* We will start each class with a fun brain teaser, and then move on to an ice breaker/sharing time. Kids are welcome to share their pets, Lego creations, art projects, or something else about themselves if they wish. We will then move onto a short lesson on the current topic, and practice as a class. We will work on long division and multiplication, dig deeper with decimals, and work on various operations with fractions and mixed numbers. We will also cover various topics in geometry, and even touch on pre-algebra! I am an experienced, flexible teacher, and can make adjustments based on the needs of the class. KAHOOT AND GIMKIT GAMES We will play review games every week on Kahoot and Gimkit. I will share a clickable link in chat and you will simply type in the game code that I give you to join the game. These games are super fun and easy to learn. If you have a separate device like a phone or iPad, it would be helpful, but you can also use the same device you are using for Outschool. I like to remind everyone that it is just for fun and for practice. If your child prefers to use an anonymous name during the game to feel more comfortable, that is perfectly fine. HOMEWORK (OPTIONAL) I will provide a worksheet or handout after each class, and sometimes prior to class. These practice sheets are always optional. I am always available via email if a parent or learner has a question or needs support. My goal is to respond within 24 hours, but it will sometimes take a bit longer if it's over a weekend. **I am happy to check individual homework and provide feedback if the student shows their work, takes a picture of it, and sends it to me via email or posts in the classroom.** Week 1 (Sept 9th): Place Value and Rounding Weeks 2-3 (Sept 16th-23rd): Addition and Subtraction Weeks 4-7 (Sept 30th - October 21st): Multiplication Weeks 8-11 (October 28th - November 18th) : Division Weeks 12-14: Order of Operations Week 15: Integers Weeks 16-22: Fractions and Decimals Weeks 23-26: Geometry Weeks 27-30: Measurement Weeks 31-32: Data and Graphing Week 33: Factoring Week 34: Exponents Week 35: Algebra Week 36: Word Problems
