US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
I'll meet the learner one a week for 30 minutes each day, focusing on reading and writing skills determined in the initial assessment. We'll tackle decoding, multi-syllabic words, and fluency using digital text. Introduction: Begin the class with a brief discussion on the importance of phonics in reading and writing. Emphasize that understanding letter-sound relationships is crucial for both decoding and encoding words. Week 1: Phonics Exploration with "an" and "at" CVC Words: Introduce the "an" and "at" word families, showcasing examples like "ran," "cat," "pan," and "hat." Engage students in hands-on activities, such as word sorting or building CVC words with slide shows. Practice reading and blending CVC words orally as a class. Week 2: Introduction to Digraphs "sh" and "th": Introduce the concept of digraphs "sh" and "th" through visual aids and examples. Practice blending CVC words with digraphs, such as "shop," "shut," "thin," and "that." Reinforce understanding through interactive games and exercises. Creative Writing Exercise: Conduct a creative writing warm-up where students use the learned CVC words and digraphs to create short sentences or phrases. Encourage creativity and individual expression while incorporating the target phonetic elements. Short Stories and Sentence Building: Guide students in collaboratively creating a short story using CVC words and digraphs. Emphasize sentence building skills by incorporating descriptive words and phrases. Reading Practice and Review: Implement reading exercises using CVC words and short stories. Conduct a review of phonics concepts covered so far. Provide positive reinforcement and address any questions or challenges. Throughout our sessions, I'll assess your learner's progress with regular check-ins and targeted assessments. This allows me to track growth, identify areas needing more attention, and adapt lessons to match your learner's interests. My flexible approach ensures a personalized and effective learning experience.
