Class Experience

This class meets once a week and is set up to help students strengthen their writing and vocabulary skills. This class is also designed to keep the student engaged, interested and will be discussion based. At the beginning of the class the student will choose which sea animal they would like to do research on. Each assignment, and worksheet will be based on the students skill set and grade level.
With my guidance, we will read National Geographic articles and watch videos about the Sea Creature. Together, they will learn new vocabulary words and write basic sentence about facts on the Sea animal. During this, we will also research ways to preserve the species which will motivate and influence the student to make a difference and spread awareness. During the instruction, the student will be asked to have a print out of the blank vocabulary and sentence sheets, which are provided in the materials section. With the teacher, the student will use the Definitions worksheet to write and explain the words being learned, as well as determine the part of speech ( they will be taught using the parts of sheets chart). For this one on one course, the child is allowed to choose the animal they want to learn about. I am asking to have them choose an animal before the class starts. If the child is not able or not wanting to pick a specific sea creature, they can be given choices or it can be chosen by the teacher.

For an example for each class structure:
1. Students will choose a sea animal

2. Together will discover and read National Geographic articles and watch videos about:
- Basic facts on the animal
- Pictures
- Videos
- The life cycle
- Reproduction
- Consevration status
-Threats
- Predators
- What we can do to preserve the species

3. Definitions worksheet
We will write a few vocabulary words and definitions that relate to the animal. Since this section can be on going, we will write down vocabulary words that can relate to all species in the first couple in first couples sessions. Examples of definitions that may be used: Reproduction: Two animals making offspring. Offspring: The animals young.

4. Writing and drawing sheet
Students will draw the sea creature, write facts, and how we can save the species.

5. Create your own animals fact book
If the student plans to continue with tutoring session, they will be asked to keep each vocabulary, writing and drawing sheet to make their own sea creature book!

*Print both worksheets before each class.

Hi my name is Maddie, and super excited to learn with you!

All of my classes, are targeted for ages 4-9 and 10-15 and are based on marine life and how is its effected by climate change. We will explore one of the most beautiful, diverse, and crucial ecosystems known to planet, coral reefs! Every learner will have the opportunity to discuss and ask questions during the presentation and informational videos about sea creatures and their environment.

As an educator, I have experience in all different subjects and I have taught in elementary school and high school to special education students. During my undergrad at Bridgewater State University as an environmental science major with a minor in sustainability, I was able to teach and spread awareness about climate change on campus!

Each classes has two different sections for ages 4-9 and then ages 10-15.
Classes I can teach and offer:
-Art classes!
-Sea horses and aquatic animals
-Sea creature of corals
-The power of the reefs
-Ocean explorers
-Save the planet
-Recycling 101
-Exploring the Rainforest
-Exploring the Safari

“ Be the change you wish to see in the world” -Ghandi

I believe the best way to make an impact is to teach the youth, our future, the importance of sustaining our earth and all the creatures that live in it. If we taught children at a young age to recycle instead of litter, or to use reusable water bottles, sustainable habits would be done naturally.

Something fun and personal:
I am a Certified National Geographic Educator. A passion of mine has always been caring for and spreading awareness about environmental issues as well as teaching children. During my undergrad, I was the president of the Earth Club at Bridgewater State and it was my responsibility to spread awareness about human destruction, climate change, and the impact it makes on our ecosystems which are crucial to keep a healthy planet. With a minor in sustainability, my capstone research project was specifically on the importance of all ecosystems, especially coral reefs. I have traveled to research and observe the different coral reefs around the world including the Caribbean and European countries. I currently volunteer for three shelters around the world and I promote animals that need to be rescued. Through my volunteering I work with children of all ages. I interview the families and work with the children teaching them how to properly care for their pets.

See you in class!
