Class Experience

Students will learn how to make their ADHD a superpower, by learning about tips that can help with limiting distractions and learning how to accept the wonderful and unique way they have of seeing situations and solutions to problems.

No prior background knowledge is needed for this class, but students' ability to understand a little about what ADHD is and how it affects them is helpful.

I am also very open about my own ADHD and will reference it on occasion as it relates to the topics we discuss, or if it is helpful to help make a connection for a student. I have been able to access my own superpowers, so I'm excited to helps students access theirs and to talk about all the great things that they can do with them.

There will be no homework assigned in this class, aside from trying out any tips that would be helpful.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I was home schooled from preschool to 3rd grade and then spent high school in a small private school community. I value students being able to learn about things they are interested in and not being limited in their learning.

I have a bachelors of science in Human Development and Family Studies. I've worked in the human services field for 5 years, having the opportunity to teach and model various subjects to youth such as: life skills, learning how to be a professional entering the work force, how to network with peers and others in the community, creating positive relationships with peers, and developing positive social and emotional skills and behaviors. I have also worked with kids in the foster care and adoption system and helped them learn more about themselves and build confidence and self-esteem, as well as helped them create life-books that helped them reflect on who they are and who they are connected to. I have also helped older youth decide what they want their next steps to be after high school and what steps they need to take to reach their goals.

I love being able to help others find their strengths and passion and develop ways that they can get involved in their communities by doing what they love! I love to cook, go geocaching, read, play Sudoku or board games, and spend time with family.
