Beginner Level
This is for one on one writing tutoring sessions. Students should have a current assignment in at least rough draft format. It can be an essay, book report, creative writing project, or presentation. Each class will be customized to the learner's needs. Possible topics include: -Mechanics (spelling, grammar, punctuation) -Organization -Structure -Research methods and ethics -Developing your voice -Understanding assignment requirements and interpreting instructor directions -Appropriate style -Formatting
Learning Goals
Students will improve in self-identified areas. I work with each student where they are. Depending on their workload and needs, we may focus specifically on one area or multiple in a session. Students can improve their confidence, skills, and evaluations in the following areas:
- Understanding the basic universal formula for essay writing
- Research skills
- Paraphrasing
- Using outlines or mindmaps to organize information
- Improve mechanics and utilize tools to help check spelling and grammar
- Improve clarity and directness, especially in non-fiction writing
- Understand the ethics of intellectual property, plagiarism, and academic integrity
- Easily decoding assignment requirements and parameters
Other Details
Learning Needs
I can support learners with ASD, ADHD, and Dyslexia. I'm also experienced with ESL students. We change tasks frequently and I can adapt courses to the learner's specific needs, strengths, and challenges.
Parental Guidance
I may use YouTube videos to illustrate certain concepts or selections from public online writing.
