Class Experience

Young musicians will be introduced to the elements of music while playing, singing and dancing! No prior knowledge required. However, it will be required to have a good time! This class will teach 3 of the 7 elements of music including Tempo, Rhythm and Dynamics. We will play on home-made instruments and accompany songs that highlight the parts of music we learn about. Students will learn to apply their knowledge of the 3 elements while participating in 3 fun activities! As a bonus, we will even learn to sing a song with sign language!

Learning Goals

Students will understand the basic use of tempo, rhythm and dynamics while applying their knowledge to accompany 2 songs and a story. Students will use home-made instruments to play along with written musical notation.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Jennifer Hull and I have been teaching "little people music" for over 25 years now. Although I teach mostly in the brick and mortar classroom, I find online teaching creative and fun as well! With Outschool, I will be teaching general music classes just like those that elementary students take in the public school system, but BETTER!
Children learn through doing. They learn through play and excitement! I believe that music isn't something that should be taught as a discipline at the beginning. It is my job to "hook them" and spark their interest so they want to continue on with the discipline aspect. All toddlers love to sing. It is something, I believe, that is instilled in them at birth. As a child grows, they lose that luster to shine through music. If it is fostered at a young enough age, they grow their musical ability as well as their confidence and self awareness. Music brings people to gather. When playing or singing, children learn to think of the others in their group in order to be successful! It takes the entire "ensemble" to create music!
When I was in 6th grade, I had a teacher who sparked that love in me. I wanted to be a high school music theory teacher. I grew up to do just that. When I tried the elementary school, I reached a new level of passion for teaching! I sing and dance with children all day! Who wouldn't want that job?!
