Class Experience

The teacher will present lessons in a user-friendly manner, introducing new terms as the class progresses. There will be easy analogies and interesting themes appropriate for this age group. The teacher will have all materials ready for the class and show them by sharing the screen with the students.

Week 1 (2 classes): Students will learn the concept of columns, rows, cells, ranges, as well as simple formatting, such as Paint Brush, Fill Color, resizing columns and rows. The home assignment will require students to create a table, color cells within it, find cells and ranges, and enter simple information. Our main theme will be a chessboard. During the second class, we will review the home assignment, answer questions, and collaborate on a new fun project that will introduce the next week's theme.

Week 2 (2 classes): Students will learn how to create a more complex table. They will also be introduced to the concept of databases, collection of data, analysis, and discovery of patterns. We will learn how to format titles, information within the table, and how to apply filters. Our main theme will be animals. The home assignment will require students to find information about countries and cities and organize it into a table, then format and analyze it. We will review this home assignment during the second class.

Week 3 (2 classes): Students will learn how to work with numbers within a table and how to apply simple functions. We will create a budget for a small project. Students will learn the most common formulas, filters, and other useful formatting tools. The home assignment will require students to organize data into a table, then format and analyze it by applying simple formulas and filters. In the second class, we will review the homework and practice formulas and filters more interactively.

Learning Goals

By the end of the course students should be able to create their own workbooks, add formulas and perform formatting.
