Homework
1 hour per week. Learners may need extra time after class to complete their workbooks/hand-outs. Learners will benefit most if they read over the assigned materials prior to each class time.
Assessment
Learners will be assessed by informal assessment. Vocabulary quizzes will be provided before each class. The students will complete these assignments prior to or during class. The review tests provided in the workbook can also be used by parents as an informal assessment at home after class. Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 7
In this 3-week online course, learners will develop vocabulary skills and better reading comprehension by learning Greek and Latin word roots. This is also a great foundation for anyone learning medical terminology.  No prior knowledge is required. Hand-outs will be provided as needed. 

Day 1: In this class, we will learn the following word roots: mob, mot, mov (move); grad, gress (step); pos (to place, put); and sed, sid, sess (to sit, settle).
Day 2: In this class, we will learn the following word roots: log (word, idea, reason, speech); ono, nym, onym (word, name); tain, ten, tent (hold); and fer (to carry, bear, bring together).
Day 3: In this class, we will learn the following word roots: cap (take, seize); pel, puls (drive, drivers, force); pend (hang, weigh, pay); and stat (stay, position, to know).
Day 4: In this class, we will learn the following word roots: cogn, sci (to know, knowledge); sens, sent (feel, be aware); duc, duct (lead, take, bring); and flu, flux (to flow).
Day 5: In this class, we will learn the following word roots: aud, son, phon (sound, to hear); tact, tang, tag, tig (touch); clud, clus, claus (to close). and spond, spons, spous (promise, answer for, pledge).
Day 6: In this class, we will learn the following word roots: pot, pos, val (power, to be strong); cit, civ, poli, polit (citizen, city, state); fac, fic, fect, fict (make, do); and mim, sembl, simil, simul (copy, imitate, to make like, together).
Day 7: In this class, we will learn the following word roots: leg, lect (law, choose, gather, select, read); men, min, mon (to think, remind, advise, warn); ord (order); and cred, fid (believe, trust).
Day 8:In this class, we will learn the following word roots: pass, path, pat (feeling, emotion, suffering); and dur, firm (to harden, hold out, last, make firm, strengthen). We will also have a review of all word roots taught in this class.
Learning Goals
Learners will improve their understanding of selected Greek and Latin roots. This knowledge should help them to accurately and quickly define terms with these roots in them. This should, in turn, improve their reading comprehension. This foundation is also a great asset to anyone studying medical terminology.

I have taught Greek and Latin word roots in Medical Terminology at the college level. I have also taught science at all grade levels in public schools, home schools, and college. My first college degree is in Secondary Education (grades 6-12) with four concentrations (including Biology, Earth Science, and Life Science). I am also certified as a EC-Grade 4 Generalist and a Grades 4-8 Generalist.
